Who We Are

Hello!

SenseLab is a fiscally sponsored nonprofit organization founded by science writer and communicator Lizzie Benzik. While working as a tutor, Lizzie noticed her students felt better when she explained that the difficult experiences they were having were the direct result of their brain’s developmental progress. They weren’t going crazy; their brain was just changing.

SenseLab was born out of the desire to share that insight with a wider community. Through in-person events featuring presentations and play-based demonstrations, teens learn how to understand themselves and feel better in the process.

Our inaugural program will be hosted by the LeFrak Wellness Center at Barnard College, and we are in the process of organizing further programming with high schools and universities.

“Teens want to feel well, and science is an incredible way to help them reach that goal. By using interactive demos and games, their learning becomes active and neuroscience goes from being another biology class to something that is deeply relevant to their own experience”
